Here is a walk cycle test that I made ages ago - just the very early stages of learning about puppet pins in After Effects. Then today my friend Pablo (who is a fantastic photographer - find out here) found it on my Youtube account and said it made him laugh out loud. For that reason I'm posting it here -

Have been trying to get a style right and also playing with another part of a story - this one. Started off by testing how different pens reacted / worked with watercolours

First one pencil and paintbrush only

Second one my more usual ink and watercolour. Didn't bother to do the watercolour so well as I kind of knew it would be inferior to the pencil/paintbrush (although a lot quicker to produce).

Here is the original sketch. It seems to me that the messy badly drawn sketches have more life then the more carefully done stuff I develop from them : /

Here is a costly style mistake. I decided to do the story by using rotring isograph pens which are very commonly used by people drawing cartoons. I don't like how it's encouraged me to draw. By the time I'd finished the page I no longer felt like bothering to water colour it. I figured I should go back to being more messy and sketchy and just try to get better at that. Here's some more of the really quick sketches I did in my notebook - although a mess and lots of mistakes these things done with a biro seem to me to have something more original and nicer than the page I did above with all the detail and carefully inked in.
